  1. 2* St. Louis -13 #706 7:00 Bally sports midwest plus

Murray State was 31-3 last year and was one of the best mid-major teams. Their coach left for LSU along with three of their top players . Their all world guard has graduated and numerous others have left the program. The top returning scorer from last year averaged 5.6 points. With that being said they have reloaded with some good players the best of which was Stetson’s leading scorer last year. But Vegas got this one right. At first glance you would jump on Murray State +13 points. But when the spread looks too easy it usually is. Just ask all the Tennessee backers on Saturday who couldn’t believe the number one team in the country was +8-9 points. Slu has played plenty of pre season games and will be ready. Murray State will improve through the season but tonight will be a struggle. Slu wins big. (started out the day on a winning note with Baylor -45, they won by 64)

  2. NCAA basketball starts Monday with 143 board games. That’s right, just about every team plays on Monday with one of the better games being right here in St. Louis as the Billikens host Murray State. The Racers are loaded with guard play but their frontcourt is a little weak. Will be curious to see what the spread is but I imagine it will be between 7-10 points. Mizzou will have almost a brand new team which is a good thing as they host new D-1 and newest member of the Ohio Valley conference, Southern Indiana. Mizzou’s best pickup was Isiah Mosely who averaged 20 pts a game for Missouri state last year and he should easily be their best player. He is a Missouri native who went to Rock Bridge and should be better than any player from last year’s Mizzou team. Mizzou will be a big favorite on Monday. Not sure when I’ll start my plays, may need a couple weeks or maybe we should just ride the Billikens early and often.

  3. Thanks Roger! Always look forward to your thoughts and insight on the basketball teams. It definitely helps get through the winter time. The transfer portal has certainly changed the game, but I think people are starting to figure that out. Looking forward to the March madness tournament!

  4. Season end recap:

That Davidson looks like a machine when they play SLU. Not sure why the Billikens can’t defend the three point line. Anyway, we finished on a nice run anyway. Was pretty conservative this year but after an awful start we stayed the course and trusted the system which worked well after conference play started. 71-53 on the year for 57.2% but after the 8-17 start we rebounded going 63-36 for 63.6%. It’s always fun and working with gambling numbers, start times, and keeping track of the results for over 300 teams always keeps your brain sharp, much more so than doing crossword or number puzzles. Good luck in the tournament, Davidson, UAB and Vermont may be teams to look at to make a little run, both playing extremely well of late. We’ll do it again next year.

  5. 1* St. Louis +4 #605 12:00

As the game neared the end it sure would have been nice to have had St. Louis +2 as that was the final line. Hard to believe there was so much money on the Bonnies to move the line three and a half points. Anyway, thanks to Jimerson having a great game and some incredible luck in the last 1.8 seconds, the Billikens got the miracle win. We are not done riding them yet as they have a score to settle with Davidson as they were humiliated in their only meeting this year by 21 points, never in the game and by far their worst showing of the year. It will be a totally different type of game and St. Louis had better continue their stellar defensive play. The over/under is 139 so I don’t anticipate a game in the fifties although that would benefit the Billikens. Davidson has the shooters although they have inside scoring too. Against Fordham they only made 6 three pointers but were 16 -20 from the foul line so they are a complete team. We will gladly take 4 points though and hope for another close victory.
