Slu leading by 14 with 3:42 to play decides to make it close but prevails at the end covering the late three point spread and money line which jumped to -150. They play in the Hall of Fame tip off tournament Saturday at 12:00 against Maryland (ESPNNews) on a neutral court in Connecticut. They play again Sunday against either Providence or Miami Fla depending if they win or lose at 12:00 or 2:30. Mizzou is in the top three in the nation in scoring as their new team is at least fun to watch and they are beating teams they are supposed to beat. Tonight we will take the home team who plays great defense. Iowa is a scoring machine at home but has struggled on the road in previous years. Two contrasting styles here and we will back Seton Hall with their new coach from St. Peter’s.

Every game we have picked this year has gone the other way in the very next game. St. Louis doesn’t cover their second game after covering their first. . Hawaii doesn’t cover against Miss Valley State but wins easily in their next game and Miss Valley state gets killed. So we’ll go back to the Billikens tonight in what should be an electric game. We will back experience over a big athletic Memphis team. Memphis has some big transfers but looked out of sync in their opener at Vandy, a game they won by 9 points. Vandy lost all their scorers from last year and lost by 12 to S. Miss at home. So a road win anywhere is good but it’s going to be a tall order to win in St. Louis. Memphis must make some threes to compete in this game, they were 5-19 in their first game. St . Louis must be composed and they too will need to shoot well from three and not have any lapses like their late first half swoon
against Evansville. An early season big game for both teams with Slu coming out on top.

Have to get on the board with the one star plays so we will go back to the well with SLU. Hawaii had a chance to pull it out last night with a 21 point lead with five minutes left but four straight possessions with missed three pointers didn’t help. They missed 25 three pointers on the night and 16 in the first half. They did cover the 14 pt second half line. Evansville is a bad team and struggled to score all of last year. They did win their first game at Miami Ohio but they are bad too. Can’t see Evansville reaching 55 points and can’t see Slu staying under 85 so the math points to a SLU cover.

Disappointing offensive performance by UMass last night as they shoot 21% from 3-pt and just over 50% from the foul line and score only 6 points in the last 9:20 of the first half. Offense is their strength but not last night. 30 pt and above favorites went 3-0 last night . TCU is a 33 pt fav over Lamar (#359 out of 363 teams) but tcu was a 34 pt fav over Arkansas Pine Bluff in their opener and won 74-73. They will probably cover tonight. We will go against Mississippi Valley State (#361 out of 363) who lost to Baylor by 64 in their opener. Hawaii is no slouch and should have no problem here covering the 25 on the island . This spread will only go up.

Just a better team here with the second best guard in the A-10 with Frank Martin as their coach. He brought in his big man from South Carolina and he will stress defense. Towson had a good season last year but this will be a tall order at Umass. Towson opened up as a 1 point fav but the line has reversed and Umass is now a 2-3 point fav. Shouldn’t be a problem covering the small number.
