1* SLU money line -135 #620 7:00
Back in business after some studying time and this game deserves a star. Travis Ford was not happy after the last game even though UAB is one tough opponent and could easily be undefeated. Belmont comes in after a road win at Samford and brings back nearly all of their scoring from last year. Belmont has great outside shooting and plays well as a team but they don’t have the quickness of UAB which SLU did not handle well. Belmont runs more of a pass and screen offense and SLU should be able to handle that better. And with the fact of just losing at home and an unhappy coach, SLU should come out with the victory tonight. Other players have stepped up in the absence of Perkins and surprisingly have been able to score points with ease. The only thing lacking is the go to guy at the end of the game, a role that Perkins had last year. Also bet the under in the Mizzou game last night when it was 130. It has dropped to 126. Mizzou and E. Illinois both have trouble scoring and I think Mizzou wins by scoring somewhere in the 60’s.

This is what we have learned so far this year in college basketball:
_SLU is still pretty good even without their best player
_ Mizzou will get better as year goes on evidenced by their big win over SMU
_Gonzaga is still the best but Purdue has turned some heads and may belong in the top five
_St. Thomas, the D-3 team that moved to D-1 and lost their first game when I picked them, has since gone on a tear covering five games in a row and winning three of them.
_ St Bonaventure may be a top ten team this year.
_ And last but not least, we shouldn’t be betting basketball in November. All the previews and predictions go out the window when the game starts. If a team gets hot from three, any team can cover any game easily. I keep up with every game , but picking games is a little tough right now. I had two games picked out for Saturday and both lost and today I had another two picked out and they won. Just no good situations right now. A ton of games tomorrow but more than half are tournament games. I may take the whole week off but you never know.

OK, we should be betting on Mississippi and against Marquette tonight. I probably will but I’m hopeful on my one star play tonight. FIU has some real athletes and scorers while Green Bay struggles to score. GB used to always have three point snipers but that’s in the past. FIU, who has a full, healthy squad this year, should coast . This game is being played in Florida but not on campus. I’ll probably take Georgetown too, who is at home against a terrible Siena team or we could just ride with Mark’s team, Weber State, who is a perfect 2-0 ATS but the line is catching up with them as they are laying 10 tonight.

The majority of underdogs usually cover the early tournament games and that was the case this afternoon as the dogs went 4-1. So why am I taking a favorite tonight? Well it’s more of a case of betting against Marquette who just beat Illinois in front of a full home court crowd. Not sure how they did it with a very inexperienced team but they did. Now they go to Charleston South Carolina and will play in a totally different atmosphere. Small crowd, strange surroundings, and coming off their huge upset. Mississippi is not a power house but they have a nice team and are catching Marquette at a perfect time, a big letdown spot.
No rated plays tonight;
After looking at all 40 games nothing really sticks out at the current lines. I bet St. John’s last night at +7 and also took over 148 but now the line is -4.5-5 and the o/u is 151. The value has gone down so no rated play. Small wagers on Uconn -27 Miss State- 16 and Baylor -18.5 first half. In the next week there are lots of tourney games on neutral courts, may not have plays every day.
So close to going 2-0 last night but IPFW, leading by 7, rebounds the missed shot with 4 seconds left and instead of holding the ball and getting intentionally fouled, he makes a bad pass and Austin Peay picks it up and makes a layup at the buzzer to cover. At worst it should have been a push. Bad beat there.
