Got rained out 9/27 @ Harrah’s Grand Bear $100 wknd green fee. Beautiful setting 6 miles deep in DeSoto National Forest. We plan to return. There is another course owned by Beaux Rivage (MGM) Fallen Oak not far ranked as #4 casino owned course in country $200 wknd green fee. Player card discounts 10 – 20% are available. \nFri 9/28 played RTJ Magnolia Grove Crossings course. Recently renovated. Good condition firm new greens but not that difficult for most of us. Stayed in downtown Mobile. Neat area with buildings that look similar to New Orleans. \nSat 9/29 played RTJ Lakewood golf club Dogwood Course in Point Clear about 30 minutes north of Gulf Shores. Course renovated last year. 47 years old right on Mobile Bay Much tighter but flatter layout with a lot of water hazards. Scores were higher across the board here. \nSun 9/30 played Magnolia Grove Crossings. Conditions were not up to RTJ standards but still good. Drainage problems in parts of fairways & a few stressed areas on a few greens. More challenging layout off the tee. High & low scores of the weekend for most of us. \nClubhouses are all identical and magnificent as are practice areas. \nNext trip is either Opeilika near Auburn or Muscle Shoals an southeast of Memphis.

Fairmount Race Track has the “Party at the Park” every Saturday\, which includes food and reduced price drinks in the admission — and we are planning to go Saturday\, June 24.\n\nPat has reserved 2 boxes for those who prefer to be under cover\, or just want a home base to catch up with everyone.\n\nFairmount website states that Party in the Park is $13.00\, which includes an appetizer buffet and $2.00 Bud\, Bud Light\, Bud Select bottles\, house wine\, and well drinks.  Of course\, you can still do general admission if not eating or drinking\, and Pat thinks general admission is ~$2.00.\n\nFirst Race starts at 7:30pm and we hope anyone who’s interested can join us.\n\n \n\n \n\n

Enjoyed both stops but the consensus was that Muscle Shoals was better. The courses were challenging but fair & only 6 hours away. \nWhen we went to Birmingham in May the courses were packed. However that was not the case in Oct at either stop. \nApparently SEC football keeps a lot of golfers off the courses. We moved our entire trip back one day due to the forecast with no problem. \n  \nBelow is original post regarding trip:\nRobert Trent Jones – Muscle Shoals/Huntsville Trip \nHere’s the update from Wally:\nLooks like we are going to play the Robert Trent Jones trail Oct 6 & 7 in Huntsville at Hampton Cove and then going to play Muscle Shoals Oct 8 & 9.  You can play both stops or just one.  Both are about 6 hours from STL – costs approximately $75 round.  Steve is taking care of hotels.  I am booking golf soon.  It’s easier to book now and get tee times\, so let me (Wally) know as soon as possible if you are interested.  You can cancel up to 30 days in advance. \n  \nHotel Info:\nSteve is taking care of hotels.
